Phyllonorycter messianella

24 hours in the fridge calmed this specimen down. A handsome creature. If this is messianella, I wonder where it originates as I know of no local examples of its foodplants - oaks, beech, sweet chestnut.

  1. Looks correct to me, Adam. While there may be no oaks etc immediately adjacent to your garden, there are some not too far away eg the Ashburnham canal area. These moths will disperse...
I trapped on Weds night - calm, overcast, not too cold etc. Result: just 2 common marbled carpets!

  2. Thank you Ian - they are so tiny I find it hard to believe they can reach the end of the garden.
