Up North.....

A Carmarthenshire moth recorder who is doing well this year is Arfon Williams, based in the north of the county (north of Ffarmers in the Twrch valley). A wanderer that he had in his home trap recently was the gelechiid Prolita sexpunctella, a heather-feeder that only has one undated record according the 2016 county listing. Both photos below by Arfon Williams.

                                                     Above: Prolita sexpunctata.

Arfon also has done a little `away from home `trapping and he was rewarded by the capture of a confused.

Above: no confusion about this confused - Arfon, Sam and myself all agree on its identity.

Remember that it`s National Moth Night/s this weekend (Thursday-Saturday inclusive). Good luck to all who participate.

  1. Two excellent records! Being someone who also traps 'Up North' and not far from the Teifi valley, which passes through the far side of Llanfihangel-ar-Arth, less than two miles north of Maenol, I would be very interested to know where Arfon is trapping
