Moths at Saron, Llandysul

It has been a rather disappointing year so far for moths here and walks around our land and other nature reserves locally and other areas further afield insect numbers in general seem to be well down. I work in the fields most days and even the horse flies are scarce! I did get a Waved Carpet last night and over the last week there have been 3 Scarlet Togers in the polytunnel.

  1. I agree, Sally re the paucity of moths etc.

  2. Nice photos, Sally. Have you worked out what's attracting the Scarlet Tigers to your polytunnel? The numbers suggest that they might have been breeding there. All I've seen in mine so far this year have been a couple of Buff Ermines and a few Agonopterixes.

  3. Thanks Chris, I suspect they are breeding there Chris as they just turn up each year - up to 6 - but not sure what is attracting them. The perennials I grow are fennel and strawberry. There is a lot of borage.
