Burnet caterpillars and chrysalises

I noticed the distinctive caterpillars of Burnet moths - probably 6-spot - in the meadow part of my garden.

They seemed to be attaching themselves to grass stems.

Where they were becoming chrysalises.

Which soon hardened into opaque specimens. I'll be watching these in hope of capturing an emergence.

  1. Did you see how it made the covering - it is a very clever structure for a short fat caterpillar to make!
