The longest day

Despite my own misgivings about the clearing sky on Friday night, I left the trap out and had a reasonable number of moths on Saturday morning - mostly Heart and Dart and some Heart and Club. I also recorded a couple of new Micros for the garden.

Most of my Common Wainscots turn out to be Smoky so I had a good look at the underside and the hindwing of the specimen below.
Both the underside and the upperside of the hindwing were very white with just a smudge of grey, so I think this could actually be the rather uncommon, "Common" Wainscot. But apparently not...it's Southern. Sigh...
