Update from Nant y Bai mine

Sam Bosanquet has kindly now checked by gen det and confirmed that the Nematopogon that Ian Morgan and I retained from this old lead mine on 8th June is a male N. pilella, a first for VC44. It came to my 20w blacklight amongst bilberry which is the foodplant. Thanks to Sam for looking at this and to Ian for taking me to this interesting site. The rocks at the mine were covered with these rusty-coloured lichens, to be identified later, I hope!

  1. Stunning photos, as always, Chris. Sam will be the man to i/d the lichens, one of the main reasons why the site was notified as SSSI.
