Llansteffan moths

30 moths of 25 species last night, best of which was a Marbled Coronet. It was quite chilly when I put the trap in the garden but glad I did now, as I also caught a Garden Tiger which always makes me smile. I am hoping for warmer weather to trap at friends homes, but I have been getting some sleep in when I don't trap....up at 5:30a.m this morning was a shock to the system.

  1. Marbled coronet is a good record Mel. The weather is blinking awful - today was supposed to be warm and sunny but it was mostly overcast (though with a few short sunny periods) and too windy for any productive worthwhile daytime mothing. The night-time weather is likewise poor. It`s not going to be a good year if this continues! I may try to trap somewhere tonight IF the wind abates. At last I`ve finally entered my Moth Night records and it was interesting to look at the numbers and variety that I had back in June, compared to recent poor catches.

  2. Thanks Ian, next week they are forecasting better weather so here's hoping. I did trap at St A's recently and had some good moths which I will get round to blogging about soonish. I haven't put my Moth night records in yet.
