Llansteffan moths

I trapped last night even though it felt decidedly cold at 7:30pm. I haven't trapped for 10 days and then I caught only three moths a Dusky Thorn & 2 Black Rustics.  I didn't hold out much hope of anything better, I did get up at 3am and checked that it wasn't full to the brim and the moths crushing each other, haha, to my eyes it looked like there was nothing in there. I had a rummage and found what turned out to be a Blair's Shoulder Knot, a new one for me so a happy bunny for a new one.  Then a small pale wave turned up but wouldn't go into the trap, I had a pot to hand so I tried to catch it but it kept spiralling up into the darkness and then back down again.  I lost the will to live at 3:20am and went back to bed leaving the trap on. This morning to my surprise I had 2x Setacous HC, 1x Common Marbled, 3x Light Brown Apple,  1xBlair's Shoulder Knot, 1 Beaded Chestnut and another new one for me, which I think was the Wave I saw, a Vestal, glad I put the trap out now.

  1. That is a nice collection Mel - well done! I think - but I may be wrong - the only Carms vestal this year. Certainly worth trapping!

  2. Thanks Ian, nearly didn't bother but last years Vapourer taught me a lesson.

  5. Many thanks both, I wouldn't bother trying to keep up Ian! Quite surprised how small the vestal was! Anyway I may put the Actinic out tonight if the battery charges enough, forgot to do it.
