ID help needed please
There are several that seem very similar to this micro and I cannot identify the correct one. As usual any help much appreciated.
Sally, in the absence of more informed opinion it's worth considering one of the Eucosma spp. as a possibility, I posted a somewhat similar-looking moth on Tuesday's blog and Barry suggested E.hohenwartiana, I think that your moth is considerably paler though and there's a few paler ones to choose from. P.S. A Magpie Moth appeared yesterday!
Thanks Chris, I saw your post and this is the family I looked at but there are a few it matches so I am stumped! Maybe after your course you will be able to confirm both yours and mine!
I agree with Barry - the lack of dark streaks in the pale dorsal blotch indicates hohenwartiana rather than the commoner cana. I posted comparative pics of both on the Blog last summer, if anyone feels like seeking them out.

ReplyDeleteI am taking a DVD of this years' micro catches with me tomorrow, including this one.
ReplyDeleteYes, this looks like hohenwartiana to me - I think everyone is busy, hence the sporadic reposnses. Cheers
ReplyDeleteThanks both!
