Felinfoel is noteworthy for its moths, as well as beer!

Paul Sperinck noted a hummingbird hawk-moth egg-laying on cleavers Galium aparine in his Felinfoel (NE Llanelli) garden recently. He has managed to rear several caterpillars as shown in the photo of one below. It must be the healthy fumes from the nearby Felinfoel Brewery, encouraging the moths to oviposit!
Well done, Paul!

  1. What a lovely caterpillar.

  2. Yes, that's a great find, we've so much cleavers in our garden I'm surprised that we're not inundated with these larvae, but I've never seen one.
I'm not so sure about the influence of the Felinfoel brewery, it was nicknamed 'Feelin' Foul' when I first tasted it in the early1960s, being fairly unpalatable to an expatriate Englishman, even one used to the products of Georges Bristol Brewery! To be fair though I have sampled it in recent years and it is very much improved, infinitely preferable to the John Smiths they were selling yesterday in the SWALEC Stadium.
