Fluttering around Ffos Las
I was really pleased yesterday to see another brown argus on Ffos Las and this time it (she) appeared to be ovipositing on cut-leaved cranesbill. This is the third one that I have seen this year.
This common blue female was ovipositing on hop trefoil. I am still seeing many more male than female common blues - yesterday 73:6 and on Sunday 113:4. Is this gender disparity normal?
I saw my first 2 painted ladies on Sat 6th, 1 on Sun and 1 yesterday. I saw a total of 2 painted ladies in the whole of 2014, 4 in 2013 and 5 in 2012 when I first started counting the butterflies on Ffos Las, so maybe this is going to be a good year for the painted lady.
I saw my first meadow brown on Sunday.
The damselflies are also busy pairing up. These are azure damselflies.
Please can someone identify this moth for me. It appears to have features of both the muslin and spindle ermine moths, but it could be something completely different? It was seen on 4th June.
