I just need help with this moth I caught 16th April, at first I thought Engrailed then I saw another posting (I think Ceredigion) that was A Grey Birch. What do you think? Cheers everyone, happy moth-ing.
This one is Engrailed (correct me if I'm wrong plz)
I think you're right about Grey Birch, Mel; but it's very early - that warm spell in March has led to some strange observations.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve, I hope it is, as it would be new for me.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. It is a bit rounder-winged than Engrailed, and the cross bands being strongest on the leading edge are a good pointer. We have quite a few April records of it in Glamorgan, the earliest being 6th April.
ReplyDeleteThanks George it's nice to catch something different.
ReplyDeleteI had a very similar one last week which I recorded as a very early engrailed - unfortunately I didn't photograph it.
