Llansteffan

While in the back lane today I saw a Hummer on my neighbour's garden flowers, I watched it for a while then rushed inside for my camera, haha it had gone by the time I came back out.

I trapped on 8th at my other site and had poor numbers compared to others who are trapping. In the MV I had 5x Brindled Beauty, 1x Oak Beauty, 6x Common Quaker, 5x Hebrew Character, 5x Clouded Drab, & Early Thorn.  I put the Actinic out in the same garden but further away behind a wall on a small patio and had 2x Early Grey, an Early Thorn, Dotted Border & a Water Carpet.

I've had better luck with butterflies in Green Castle woods, Monday & Thursday had a Brimstone, 2 Comma, Holly Blue, Peacock & a Orange Tip.  I was looking for Orange Underwing but although I did see something flitting about the tree tops I don't know if they were.

  1. Well done on the Hummer, Mel!! There haven't been many reports yet in Britain, but given the Southerlies I was looking out for them.

  2. You've already found one more Hummer than I had in the whole of last year, Mel. Is that your new actinic that you had been planning to get?

  3. Thanks... I was talking to my neighbour when it appeared on her flowers, I'll keep looking for it now and hope I can get a pic for my album.

  4. Thanks Steve, it is the new actinic I bought but I am new to it, so any advice you can give me would be great. I have picked Ian's brains about his traps and he has given me some good tips about setting up. I'm still a bit nervous about leaving it in the field, as round here there are so many public footpaths and people walking about after dark. Email me if you want to discuss it more, cheers

  5. You may wish to add your noteworthy hummer record onto the Atropos Flight Arrivals website Mel? A good record. I note that some Pembs recorders have had brindled ochre very recently...perhaps something that you may wish to target at your St Anthony`s Well site?

  6. Oh thanks for that Ian, I do need to know what to target, my last post was from St A's so I didn't get much. Next time soon.
