Daytime mothing

I didn't get a chance to run the moth trap this weekend but did manage to have a nice walk up on the Black Mountain (Mynydd Du) yesterday morning. I didn't have high hopes for much in the way of lepidoptera with the cold wind but it was nice to see a pair of common heath mating in the sunshine (apologies for rubbish phone pic):
I then stumbled across this (sadly very recently dead) female Emperor between Tair Carn Uchaf and Tair Carn Isaf (approx SN688171).
I also saw my first house martin and redstart nearby. Not much else about but plenty of orange-tips on the wing near Salem and my first small white.

  1. I went out for an hour this afternoon in the hope of finding some day-flying moths - but nothing.
Had my first small copper in the garden.
