Cameraria the `Conkerer`!

The horse chestnut leaf miner Cameraria ohridella is rapidly conquering the county and I`ve seen it at several new localities in recent weeks, including in SW Carmarthenshire today. It`s worth looking out for, but also be aware of the horse chestnut leaf blotch fungus Guignardia aesculi, which looks superficially similar at first glance. The differences can be easily found online and I posted a photo of Cameraria on 16th September (`turning over a new leaf`).

  1. Thanks Ian - I have had Cameraria mines at 15+ localities in central Carms and the Teifi valley this year as well. It'll be interesting to get a combined map at the end of the year. It isn't everywhere though, eg Clunderwen yesterday and Alltwalis today.
