A bit of good luck....

I thought that I had finished with moths today but, as I popped to the shed to put things away before the promised rains came, I noticed this specimen, which looks to me like a male wax moth Galleria mellonella resting on the door frame. If so, this is the 4th vcr of this pyralid (which I`ve previously had a few years back here at Tyrwaun). It is said to feed on honeycombs in bee hives and other hymenopteran nests.

  1. Super serendipity Ian! I haven't seen one since moving to Carms, but they were pretty regular at Dingestow (where my parents had a couple of beehives).
