A Strange Bedfellow

When I woke up on 27th August, this moth flew up from my pillow and landed on the bedroom window curtains.  Is it a peacock moth?

Later the same day I came across this micro whilst dog walking on Ffos Las and am unable to see any obvious identifying features.  What is it please?

On 3rd Sept, I came across this privet hawkmoth caterpillar marching along the middle of the path between the village shop and chapel in the middle of Trimsaran village.  The path is bordered by privet and other bushes, but with lots of birds around I didn't give it much chance of surviving for much longer even though it was almost sprinting and was hard to keep in focus for the photo.

  1. The first moth is a sharp-angled peacock...almost correct!
I usually pick up `road crossers` like your magnificent privet hawk-moth caterpillar to help them across!
Keep up the good work and thanks for blogging.

  2. I think the Micro is the Pyralid Agriphila tristella, but from that view it's impossible to be certain.

  3. Thanks for the info. I couldn't get a better photo of the micro. It was in a curl of a leaf and flew off as I tried to get a better angled shot.
