Puss Moth
Least Black Arches
White-pinion Spotted
Green Arches
and Glaucous Shears
which follows one we saw here, ten days ago.
A first for Cwmllwyd was this micro, which I believe to be Gypsonoma dealbana. Despite the very poor quality of the photo, I'm hoping one of the Group's micro experts might be able to confirm this.
You`re making me very jealous with that glaucous shears, Steve! - another good record.
ReplyDeleteSorry Ian - completely unintentional, of course, LOL.
ReplyDeleteOne more glaucous shears Steve, and I`ll be sending the Stukas!....keep up the really excellent work.
ReplyDeleteThere were actually two in the trap - I will get my tin hat!
ReplyDeleteSteve - it looks a bit dark in the outer part of the wing for a Gypsonoma. I think it's Epinotia subocellana but it's not a species I've seen (bit of a bogey moth - it's not all that rare) so would appreciate confirmation from Sam.
ReplyDeleteGeorge
I'm away at the in-laws but that doesn't look like my memory of Gypsonoma (and aren't the palps meant to be pale on dealbana?). The wing shape seems right for Epinotia, but I bow to George on the specific ID (no books here but it matches UKMoths E ocellana)
ReplyDeleteThanks very much George and Sam - I considered Epinotia subocellana, but thought the dark basal patch was not so well defined as the Gypsonoma sp., or the moth at Cwmllwyd. However, the wing shape could be the crucial evidence supporting Epinotia subocellana.
