Another poor night for me in Cilycwm - cool and damp again. Lesser swallow prominent, pebble prominent, brimstone, flame shoulder and what I think is a red-green carpet. Can anyone confirm this? Also a totrix but the picture is not great: Isabel

  1. Spot-on for Red-green Carpet out of hibernation, but you need a more expert answer for your Tortrix!

  2. Thanks Steve - some of the 'carpets' still make me nervous when identifying them, especially as I had not recorded this one before. That's why this blog is so useful!

  3. For me, the really difficult moths are the pugs, some of the dull-looking Noctuids and most of the micros: that leaves plenty of room for improvement!

  4. Pugs - thank heavens for digital cameras and other people in the know....

  5. I was trying to ID the Tort as an Acleris, but I think it's just Light Brown Apple Moth (Epiphyas postvittana). You're very rural for that species, but it is still spreading.
