A Disappointing Night

Returning to trapping last night (16/4/14), I was optimistic that it would be worthwhile. I`d put out three traps - the `home actinic` at Tyrwaun, Pwll and two `mobile actinics`, one next to an orchard on the Stradey Estate and the other in my regular `bilberry-oak cwm` site just NW of Cwmbach village.

                                         Above: frosted green, Tyrwaun, Pwll

The home trap had an `only fair` variety (13) of moths, albeit in low numbers, with frosted green, v-pug, pebble prominents (x2), water carpet, spectacle and brown silver-line being firsts for 2014.
The `orchard trap` next to Stradey Home Farm only had two moths! - a hebrew character and a small phoenix (latter also a `first for the year`). At the wooded cwm site (which necessitates a lengthy walk) numbers were low, but at least there were five species (hardly success!) - including my `first for the year` purple thorn and nut-tree tussock.
