Signs of Spring at Tyrwaun, Pwll

The warm weather yesterday (24th Feb) tempted me away from the laptop to have a mug of tea and a sandwich outside during lunchtime. It was certainly nice to experience some nice sunshine after the rain and gales of early 2014.
I saw my first butterfly of the year, a small tortoiseshell, fly past and there were at least three buff-tailed bumblebees Bombus terrestris nectaring at Daphne odorata, Erica carnea (winter flowering heather) and Pulmonaria officinalis (lungwort). They were joined by a single tree bumblebee Bombus hypnorum.
The buff-tails were also out last Saturday (20th Feb). It`ll be time to set the moth traps out soon!
