December Moths in Clumps
On first inspection this morning I saw what seemed like a very large moth on the wall close to the trap, but it turned out to be a cluster of December Moths which had clearly enjoyed a very intimate night. Another good session for this species, 20 in all, plus two each of Winter Moth and Mottled Umber, and a single November Moth.

Looks like a mating pair and two extra male hangers-on? The female looks much bigger than the males.
ReplyDeleteYes, one of the 'spare' males was literally hanging on, the other was probably fed up with waiting his turn. I had quite a shock when I first saw the group because it was pretty dark and I couldn't think what such a large moth could be at this time of year!
