ermine species

I saw this ermine fly into a bush in my grandmother's garden in Salem at the weekend (a very breezy bush, hence the horrible blurry photo). Is it possible to id to species please? Too few spots for bird-cherry, so was thinking possibly apple?
Thanks,
Vaughn

  1. I think it's got white cilia and a white wing, so I'd guess Spindle Ermine, but they're a very difficult group. Has your grandmother got any spindle (including the broad-leaved evergreen Euonymus japonicus) in her garden?

  3. Apparently she does have Euonymus japonicus so spindle ermine is looking likely?
