A weekend off trapping
I decided to have a weekend off moth trapping this weekend and had a walk up the hill behind Garnant (not sure of the name) which is a picture at this time of year with the heather in flower. Lots of insect activity with a painted lady my highlight as it's the first I've seen this year. Plenty of other butterflies: peacocks, small heath, small copper, meadow brown, gatekeeper, red admiral, small tort and large white.
A few moths around too - dozens of silver Ys - seemed as if I was flushing one with each step! Saw a female drinker clinging to the heather and this attractive broom moth larva:
There was also this Crambid moth - is it Agriphila tristella? I have Jon's useful review of Carms Crambids but would like to double-check. I don't normally manage to get close enough to get a decent photo but this one stayed put.
