Saron, Llandysul

Got up at 4.10am and a lot of moths ... cleared surrounding area with a torch first, then emptied trap. I am really pleased I am getting better at ID'ing and don't need so many containers now! 83 macro species in total with a few new species for me (Large Emerald, Antler, Scallop Shell and Striped Wainscott). Early Thorn  (5) and Swallow-tailed (2), Small Rufous (1) and Gothic starting to appear. Have cut some of our hay fields so wondering how this affects habitat for moths? We leave some uncut each year.

  1. Haycutting was presumably a traditional activity on the farm, so I would n`t worry! Keep up the good work....always nice to see your records.
